B&FYC’s Flying 15 fleet is starting to think about the post-vaccine world. A day’s racing with that cask ale and chilled wine, a band playing in the clubhouse, full plates from a buffet spread laid on and some great conversation.
For those who have visited our Open before and experienced our hospitality you know what’s in store but if you haven’t, you first arrive and think there's some kind of joke going on as the Wyre Estuary is empty but for a trickle of water in the middle. That is until the bore comes up the river over the sandbanks with the tide behind it and there is a realisation; that it maybe a different kettle of fish than sailing on a pond.
That extra element of tide always produces fantastic racing with different current flows at different places and in different directions, adding up to an experience you won’t get anywhere else.
From on the water to recovering if boats back onto the shore and as last time we hoped to cram in as much as possible with another talk on an aspect of sailing after the fantastic presentation given by Steve Goacher's 2019. Along with spot prizes and an evening party with a band.
So I hope I’ve taken your thoughts for a little while to that start line, that 1st windward mark, that close finish, and that first pint after in the bar or our outdoor patio afterwards.
We hope to see you all on 24/25th July 2021 if not on the circuit before!
