A few days ago we wrote bemoaning the persistence of heavy brass tiller fittings on our boats and wondering where we could source titanium replacements..... and then, fantabbydosa, Ian Preston wrote in with this....
Yes, from me!!
I've been making a Titanium tiller hood for about 15 years now which is extremely light and utilises an alluminium tiller. The total cost is fractionally more than buying all the bits to make up the conventional kit. It doesn't lift up, but when you are racing it is absolutely solid, which in my view is far more important. Charlie Apthorp and Simon Kneller both use one.
I haven't any in stock at the moment as I have to make them in batches of ten. The material is cheap enough, it is the machining that is expensive. So if enough people order, I could have a batch ready for next season!
