We have two months to go to the Classic and Silver Nationals at Bassenthwaite SC on the 5&6
th of August.
This event is being held as part of Bass Week, and entries are open now on the
Bass Week website
Remember that you can enter just for the championship on the first weekend, but are welcome to stay for the rest of the week to join in. Weekdays have individual races so you can mix and match your sailing with exploring the area in this beautiful part of the Lake District. You can stay at the club with your tent, caravan or motorhome and enjoy the hospitality provided by one of the friendliest clubs around. If you have never been to Bass before, you will be hooked by the club, the scenery and a lake over 4 miles long and almost a mile wide, where no other boats are allowed. A fabulous place to sail.
Access also couldn’t be easier. Just take the A66 west off the M6 at Penrith and the club is around 200 yards off this road at Dubwath at the northern end of the lake.
The NOR for the event is the same as for the rest of Bass Week, but if you are in doubt as to whether your boat qualifies as a Classic or Silver, then Classics are up to sail number 2700, with Silver from 2701 up to 3400. There are exceptions for boats with Silver numbers built to older designs, mostly Wyche & Coppock and Copeland, which allows them to sail in the Classic fleet. If you want to check where your boat fits the exact definitions
can be found here
Indicated interest shows that it could be quite a woody-fest in the Classic fleet with 5 boats including the first and last Chippendale boats built (see photo below of FF1155 ‘Squall’, the last Chippendale built, having a practice at the Bass FF Open in May this year.). Silver fleet interest is building too.
There will be an official event photographer for Bass Week, so there will be a great opportunity to get some stunning shots of your boat in action.
If you never normally travel to an event, then this is the one to go for. You will be made most welcome, so see you there!
