The Club hosted the UKFFA National Championships in 2018 and are excited to be welcoming the Flying Fifteen fleet back again in 2024.

This year's events lead sponsor is Willowbrook Organic Farms. John McCann MBE, the managing director, is a former National World Champion and New Zealand Champion Flying Fifteen sailor.

Flying Fifteens were established as a fleet in SLYC in 1953 and in the 1970’s had 70 boats racing regularly. A number of former members were past champions of this event.

The NOR is due to be published on our website towards the end of January, we are in discussions with Stena Line with regard to a ferry deal. Accommodation is best booked through Airbnb.  There is parking for camper vans ½ mile from the club on a first come basis.

We will have a full social programme and we look forward to welcoming you to Strangford Lough again.

The Scottish Championship at Loch Lomond Sailing Club 5th & 6th October

Image
Loch Lomond
Loch Lomond 'Lake of the Elms'  is a freshwater Scottish loch about 14 miles northwest of the centre of Glasgow, Scotland's largest city.  The Loch forms part of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park which was established in 2002.

Sailing on Loch Lomond gives the experience of sailing on the largest fresh water loch in the UK and it can be just as much fun as the sea but without the tides.

Loch Lomond Sailing Club is one of the foremost Sailing venues in Britain, hosting National and International events, most recently the International Canoe British Championships as a part of our 150th Anniversary Celebrations. Flying Fifteens have raced at the Club for over 50 years, initially from Moorings but latterly Dry sailed, launching from a wide concrete ramp.

Established in 1873 originally on the Clyde as Clyde Canoe Club to promote Sailing Canoe activities,  moving to Loch Lomond in 1903, the Club was initially based at Balloch , then moved in 1933 to the current site in Milarrochy Bay  on the East shore of the Loch, where Dinghy and Keelboat racing took off.

The Club faces onto the Widest part of the Loch where at least 2 full size Olympic courses can be laid alongside each other, whatever the wind direction, with the start areas only minutes from launching.
Limited camping is available on site , there is also the opportunity for Camper vans at the adjacent Caravan Club site and there is plenty of B+B accommodation in nearby villages.

The Scottish Championship will form part of our 2024 Closing regatta weekend with an accompanying Social program, Bar and our renowned Catering facility. 6 races are planned on a dedicated 15’s course over the 2 days.

We look forward to welcoming Competitors from far and wide for what promises to be a memorable weekend.
