So here we are back again in Riva Del Garda 12 months after first coming here for the F15 European Championships in 2012. We enjoyed the venue so much we just had to come back even for a holiday without sailing.
It feels odd being here with no boat but the weather is pleasantly warm - nicely cooler than last year and no hailstorm! We visited the Fraglia Vela Riva (the sailing club) on our first night here, on our walk into town for dinner. We were greeted by the Irish barmaid as long lost friends and provided us with complimentary drinks - its great to be back.
So one year on, there is no regatta this week at Riva - its very quiet in the harbour with just a clutch of Optimists going out to sail in the regular F4 "ora" wind. There has been a regional Laser championship last week and the 29ers are due here next week.
So "our week" is empty! Mmmm, when can we come back to race again please? Perhaps the UK association could nominate this as a UK venue for European purposes! Its nice to hope.
In the meantime I also dream about what a lottery win could do for the foundation of an Italian fleet of F15s.
