The last Open Meeting of the season is back at Draycote Water with the one day ‘Sprint’ format, which will take place on Saturday 18th October. This will be the third year we have used exciting format that has given some great racing over the past two years with the winner not being decided until the very last race, if not the last leg!

Draycote Sprint for Flying Fifteens

So one day of sprint racing with each race lasting only 45 minutes or thereabouts with as many races as possible being held on the day. Again, there will be a cut off time for when the last race has to start by as per previous years.

We have reviewed whether to have a discard or not and after much debate, we have decided to reinstate a one race discard so back to the year one scoring format. Whilst this takes the pressure off slightly, one is thus not out of the event if one has equipment failure or just a bad race!

The course again will be windward/leeward in order to provide plenty of opportunity to overtake and to be overtaken, which will also allow fast turnarounds between races. After racing, there will the usual prize giving and beer in the clubhouse with its fantastic views over the reservoir.

For the third year, we are pleased to announce Mercure Brandon Hall Hotel and Spa as our event sponsor and the prizes will include one nights accommodation with evening meal & one hour spa session for two people at Brandon Hall Hotel, one of Coventry’s premier hotels as well as vouchers for stays at other 4 Star hotels in the UK. We thank Mercure Hotels for their continuing sponsorship of this event.

For anyone wanting to stay over and sail with the club fleet on the Sunday or come early on Friday evening, camping is available in the country park behind the club as well plenty of local accommodation, see Draycote’s website for further details.

You can of course experience one of the prizes by staying at Brandon Hall, only 10/15 mins from the club, who are offering special rates (subject to availability) for competitors. Please contact Mike Stenson on [email protected] for further details.

You can now enter the event by downloading the Notice of Race which also contains the entry form here.

So we look forward to welcoming you on the 18th to this fun and exciting event.
