An excellent turnout of 50 boats for the Flying 15 northern championship, after high winds over the last couple of days, were greeted with plenty of sunshine and a mirror like lake, with a forecast of F1 from the east.

I’m writing this the day after the Olympics ended in Paris (and Marseilles, or even Tahiti…), the weather seems to have picked up here in the UK, and it feels like a summer of sports is well underway
The recent 2024 Nationals saw a remarkable six sailmakers in the top ten
There aren’t many fleets with such a wealth of sailmakers supporting the class, and even fewer producing so many competitive boats as we see in the UKFFA fleets

2024 is a worlds qualifying year for the Flying 15 class and not surprisingly, a large and high quality fleet of 40 boats turned up at Grafham to find the sun shining and some wind blowing.
Principal Race Officer Nigel Denchfield told the assembled sailors at the briefing to expect some possible windshifts on the race course- how right he was!
